HNI plans to close its Hickory, North Carolina, manufacturing facility by April 2025 and consolidate production at other North American sites. Manufacturing Dive reported on 28 May 2024 that 221 employees would be laid off, with the first round beginning on 13 October, according to a notice filed with the state. The site is in the United States.

Commercial functions will remain in Hickory

The company’s 20 May consolidation release gives a first-half 2025 closure window. HBF’s brand headquarters, marketing, customer experience, product development and product engineering teams are to remain in Hickory. The plan concerns production relocation, rather than the departure of every company function from the city.

  • Factory closure window: first half of 2025.
  • Expected mature annual savings: approximately $11 million in 2026.
  • Expected savings during 2025: $8–9 million.
