Skanska USA has established Skanska Advanced Technology, a specialist construction unit for high-tech and semiconductor manufacturing facilities. Manufacturing Dive reported the development on 24 February 2025, following the contractor's announcement earlier that month.

Projects and organisation

The unit operates within Skanska USA Building.

  • Specialisation: high-tech and semiconductor construction.
  • Operating division: Skanska USA Building.
  • Leadership: Katie Coulson, executive vice president and general manager.

Coulson's remit

The company's 5 February release says Coulson will oversee the new unit's operations and report to regional executive officer Jim Link. She joined Skanska in 1999 and previously managed its relationship with its largest high-tech manufacturing customer. USA Building president and chief executive Clay Haden presented the unit as a way to serve customers in the high-tech and chip-manufacturing sector.

The release describes the wider American organisation as headquartered in New York, with 28 offices and 6,500 employees. Those group figures cover more activities than the new specialist unit; the 180-person figure refers specifically to the technology-construction team.

Semiconductor investment already under way

A dated example of the industry's capital programme appears in Intel's November 2024 regulatory filing. Intel disclosed an agreement for up to $7.8 billion in direct federal funding and $65 million for workforce development, covering twelve fabrication and advanced-packaging facilities in Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio and Oregon. Eligible activities include construction, modernisation, equipment installation and operation.

The Intel document is industry context, not an award of work to Skanska. It illustrates a manufacturing investment programme involving buildings, equipment and workforce development alongside one another.
