Industrial site and intended products
US Forged Rings selected Hertford County for the first two phases of its specialty-steel project. The company announcement of 26 February identifies proximity to Nucor’s steel facility and Chowan River transport as location advantages for oversized components. President and chief executive Giacomo Sozzi announced the site selection as part of the company’s domestic manufacturing expansion.
The North Carolina governor’s same-day announcement describes specialty tubular products and forgings for power-generation applications, including reactors, heat exchangers and high-temperature steam handling. Industrial products also include rings, shafts and cylinders. The company was incorporated in March 2022 and belongs to the Sozzi family’s industrial group.
- First two phases: up to 625 projected full-time jobs.
- Full three-phase programme: up to $875 million planned investment.
- Location advantages: neighbouring steel supply and Chowan River access.
Rail service and development partners
In a 3 March announcement, CSX said it would provide long-haul rail transportation alongside the North Carolina & Virginia Railroad, its short-line partner. CSX representatives Casey Wagner, director of metals marketing, and Meghan Hennessy, regional manager of site design, attended the project announcement. The rail connection would link the planned factory with markets across the Eastern Seaboard and beyond.
The governor’s account also names the community college system, transport and environmental departments, Dominion Energy and Hertford County among the project partners. Their involvement concerns the development programme.
