MKS has opened the first phase of its Supercenter Factory in Penang, Malaysia, supporting production of equipment used in wafer fabrication. Bernama reported the opening on 20 June 2026. The project is being built in stages; the opening does not mean that every planned phase or job has already been completed.

The first phase and the whole project

The joint opening release published by MIDA places the factory on a 17-acre site, with approximately 350,000 square feet of built-up space. It ties investment exceeding RM400 million and more than 1,000 expected jobs to completion of all phases. The jobs figure is a future project target, rather than the opening-day workforce.

  • The 17-acre site is approximately 6.88 hectares.
  • The reported built-up area converts to approximately 32,516 square metres.
  • These figures measure different things: land and building area.

Bernama pairs the 350,000-square-foot figure with 0.40 hectares.

From groundbreaking to opening

MKS’ 24 October 2024 groundbreaking announcement had scheduled the first phase for the first half of 2026. The 20 June opening falls within that stated window. The earlier release described a multi-phase project of approximately 500,000 square feet on the same 17-acre plot and about 1,000 prospective jobs.

The 2024 projected area and the 2026 opening’s 350,000-square-foot figure refer to different announcements and stages. The available releases do not provide a phase-by-phase reconciliation, so the difference alone does not establish that a later phase was cancelled.
