Industrial production in the United Kingdom fell 0.7% in March 2025 from February, while output over January–March rose 1.1% from the preceding quarter. Anadolu Agency reported the figures on 15 May, citing the Office for National Statistics. The monthly decline followed February’s upwardly revised 1.7% increase.
Manufacturing and energy drove the monthly decline
The ONS March production bulletin records a 0.8% monthly fall in manufacturing, a 1.2% fall in mining and quarrying, and a 0.7% fall in electricity and gas. Water supply and sewerage increased 0.8%, partly offsetting the declines.
- Computer, electronic and optical products: down 8.4% in March.
- Basic pharmaceutical products: down 5.8%.
- The same industries rose 9.8% and 4.4%, respectively, in February.
ONS identifies the two industries as the largest negative manufacturing contributions in March and links their falls mainly to a reversal of February’s strength.
