FESCO has launched FESCO China Direct Line-5, a container service directly connecting Shanghai, China, with the Commercial Port of Vladivostok in Russia. The first vessel left Vladivostok on 7 December 2024 and was expected in China on 10 December, Interfax reported on 9 December. Arrival was still prospective at the publication date.
The new direct route
The 9 December company release specifies a three-day transit and weekly departures. Two ships with combined capacity of approximately 3,200 TEU are assigned to the service. TEU is the twenty-foot-container equivalent used to state capacity; it does not establish how many containers were loaded on the first voyage.
- Departure on 7 December is the reported completed event.
- Arrival on 10 December is the announced estimate.
- Weekly departures are the service schedule, rather than several sailings every day.
FESCO previously served Shanghai through China Express-3, which also called at other Chinese ports. The group attributes the decision to add a direct connection to increased customer demand.
Different scales within the network
That is a network figure, distinct from the two new-route vessels’ combined 3,200-TEU capacity.
The earlier Shanghai service to a different port
In a separate 15 August 2024 announcement, FESCO described regular less-than-container-load shipments from Shanghai to St Petersburg. Those consolidated containers used Baltorient Line, with departures from Shanghai averaging once every two weeks. The company reported the first container, carrying household-appliance consumables, reaching St Petersburg recipients on 6 August.
That earlier destination and service remain distinct from the December Vladivostok connection. A completed August delivery to St Petersburg does not confirm the December vessel’s arrival in Shanghai. The new announcement changes the direct Far Eastern route and separately describes FESCO’s broader China shipping capacity.
